Heater Core Replacement & Upgrade

GM Heater Core Connector Replacement & Upgrade Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra

In this video, Nick from Duramax Service Center discusses the common issue with the heater core fitting on older Duramax trucks. Over time, the plastic fitting on the firewall tends to become brittle, crack, and start leaking. These plastic fittings often break in half or develop cracks, and the O-ring inside can also leak. To resolve this, Nick replaced the faulty plastic fitting with a more durable Billet Heater Hose Connector made by DmaxStore, which should prevent future issues with cracking and breaking. Although the new fitting still uses an O-ring, it is thicker and should last much longer.

The video demonstrates the installation process, using a GM heater hose tool to remove the old heater core fitting. This tool, which is specifically designed for easier access, helps release the tabs holding the fitting in place. After removing the old part, Nick replaces the retainer clip with a hose clamp to prevent future leaks, ensuring a more secure fit.
